MMG Rosebery’s 90th Anniversary

See how Event Avenue delivered MMG Rosebery’s 90th anniversary through immersive design, event planning, and remote-site event management in Tasmania.

Some events mark a date on the calendar. This one marked 90 years of a town, a workforce, and a shared history.

The Rosebery Mine is not just an operation. It is part of the identity of the West Coast community around it. Generations of families have built their lives alongside the mine, with many of today’s workers following the same paths as parents and grandparents before them.

When MMG engaged Event Avenue to deliver its 90th anniversary celebration, the goal was never to simply “throw a party.” It was to honour the people whose work, loyalty, and presence have shaped Rosebery’s past and continue to build its future.

That called for far more than styling. It required thoughtful event planning, logistics, production, and event management in Tasmania at a level that matched the significance of the milestone.

Building More Than an Event

This was not a standard corporate function in a ballroom.

It was a fully immersive, story-led celebration delivered across three shifts over multiple days so the wider workforce could be included. In a 24-hour operational environment, that mattered.

Working on-site in regional Tasmania, we delivered marquee structures on sloping terrain, custom builds, managed power and gen sets, weather protection, infrastructure and contingency planning, supplier coordination, and seamless shift changeovers. Equipment had to be transported into a remote mining town. Accommodation for suppliers and crew had to be secured. Every element had to work practically, not just visually.

This is what corporate event planning in Tasmania often looks like behind the scenes: not just design, but adapting to geography, access, weather, timing, and site conditions without losing the experience.

The Transition Tunnel

Guests did not only enter an event space. They moved through a custom-built atmospheric tunnel designed to evoke the feeling of entering the mine itself.

Warm amber lighting, layered rock textures, and industrial details created a transition point between everyday work and a celebration of legacy. It was designed to slow people down for a moment and signal that this was not an ordinary shift meal or staff gathering. It meant something.

The entrance tunnel fascade were built using Ecrylimer, a proprietary eco casting compound developed by our sister company, Bramblier. The panels were hand-layered with pigments, shell chips, and crushed glass to create the feel of natural stone while remaining lightweight enough for practical installation. The remainder of the tunnel created using custom-printed panels. Using both lighting and artwork, the tunnel was designed to begin in darker, more enclosed tones and gradually open into gold as guests moved toward the celebration. As they exited, that experience reversed – a subtle way of marking entry, passage, and return.

The panels were also designed for continued use beyond this event, with a future life in MMG’s later gala celebration and then as a permanent on-site installation.

The Story Wall

Inside the marquee, a large-format visual timeline wrapped the interior space and told the story of Rosebery across generations.

One side reflected the early years, using archival imagery and historical references to acknowledge the people and moments that shaped the mine’s beginnings. The other side brought the narrative forward, reflecting the current workforce, women in mining, community connection, and the future of the site.

Running through the installation was a gold vein motif that connected past and present. It acted as a visual thread through the entire experience, reinforcing the idea that legacy is not static. It is carried forward by people.

The Signing Wall: Many Hands. One Legacy.

This became one of the most powerful parts of the celebration.

The signing wall featured a golden hand motif and invited each attendee to add their name. What began as a simple interactive element quickly became something much more meaningful. Over the course of the event, more than 300 people signed it, and the wall became a collective record of presence, pride, and belonging.

People were thoughtful about where and how they signed. Some added crew numbers. Some printed carefully. Some stood back and looked for names they knew. Across shifts, the wall grew into a portrait of the people behind Rosebery’s 90-year story.

While the wall was always intended to be preserved, its meaning deepened over the course of the event. What began as an interactive installation became something people paused in front of, studied, and absorbed – less like a guest feature, and more like an artefact of the anniversary itself.

Event Design That Lives Beyond the Day

One of the principles behind this project was that the work should not disappear once the event ended.

The Story Wall, Signing Wall, tunnel panels, and other custom design elements were created with longevity in mind. They will return for MMG’s anniversary gala and then continue on as permanent installations on site.

For us, this is an important part of meaningful corporate event design. The best installations do more than decorate a room for a few hours. They carry story, memory, and identity forward.

The Details

Catering across all three shifts was delivered by Matson Catering, with menus designed to suit the way the workforce actually gathers and eats: generous, practical, and easy to enjoy while standing and connecting.

Furniture and styling details were chosen to feel connected to the mine’s character rather than imposed from outside. Timber and metal cocktail settings, warm lighting, and textured materials all supported an industrial heritage aesthetic that felt authentic to place.

What It Took

Projects like this sit at the intersection of creativity and logistics.

Delivering this celebration required detailed pre-production, site inspections, infrastructure planning, supplier coordination, accommodation logistics, technical production, custom fabrication, styling, installation, and live on-site event management across multiple shifts and days.

This is the reality of delivering major events in regional Tasmania. Conditions are rarely simple. Access is rarely perfect. Weather always matters. Strong outcomes come from solid planning, practical thinking, and a team that knows how to make complex environments feel seamless for the client and the guest.

Honouring What Matters

Ninety years is no small milestone.

The Mine at Rosebery has endured through changing times, changing ownership, and the realities of a demanding industry, while remaining central to the life of its community. The people who make that possible deserve more than a generic celebration.

MMG understood that. We were proud to help create an experience that reflected the weight of the occasion and the people at the heart of it.
